How to add a custom connector to ChatGPT, Claude and Cursor

A custom connector lets your assistant use an outside service. You add it once with the service's address, then sign in. In Claude: Customize → Connectors → Add custom connector. In ChatGPT: turn on Developer mode, then create an app with the address and OAuth sign-in. In Cursor: add the address to .cursor/mcp.json. The steps below use Oyeh's address as the example.

Claude

Works on claude.ai and the Claude apps. Free plans can have one custom connector. On a Team or Enterprise plan, an owner adds it first, then you click Connect.

  1. Open Customize, then Connectors.
  2. Click + Add, then Add custom connector.
  3. Name it Oyeh, paste the address, and continue through to Add.
  4. Click Connect and sign in on the page that opens.

ChatGPT

Works on chatgpt.com with Plus, Pro, Business, Enterprise and Education. On a work account, an admin may have to allow it first.

  1. Open Settings, then Security and login, and turn on Developer mode.
  2. Use the plus button to create a developer-mode app. Name it Oyeh, paste the address, and choose OAuth for sign-in.
  3. Sign in on the page that opens.
  4. In a chat, open the plus menu, choose Developer mode, and turn on Oyeh.

Cursor

  1. Open .cursor/mcp.json in your home folder (create it if it isn't there) and add:

    If the file already lists other servers, add the "oyeh" entry next to them.
  2. Open Customize in the sidebar and make sure Oyeh is turned on.
  3. When Cursor asks you to sign in, sign in on the page that opens.

Any other assistant

If your assistant can add a remote MCP server with OAuth sign-in, give it the address above. Some, like Muse, can set it up from a chat. You do the sign-in yourself. For Oyeh, that means choosing "I'm new to Oyeh" and confirming your email.

A tip that helps

Add "Check my Oyeh notes when I start a chat." to your assistant's custom instructions or personal preferences. Assistants follow your own instructions more reliably than a connector's.

Do I need a paid plan?

For ChatGPT, yes: Developer mode needs Plus, Pro, Business, Enterprise or Education on the web. Claude allows one custom connector on the free plan. Cursor works on its own plans.

Is it safe?

Only add connectors you trust. A connector can act for you within what it offers. Oyeh only carries questions, documents and answers between you and friends you accepted, and never sees your AI account password.
